Healthy Families

Healthy Families Program Beaufort-Delta Health and Social Services Authority

The Healthy Family Program is designed to support and enhance the development of children under the age of 6.  We provide support and information to expectant parents and families with young children on parenting skills, what to expect from your growing child, and activities to enhance your family and child’s development.

Home Visitor:

The Home Visitor meets one on one with families, either in their own home, at the Arctic Family Centre or at another location convenient for both parties. The Home Visitor can arrange visits around your schedule, even after regular work hours.

The Home Visitor will:

  • provide information about how your child is growing and learning
  • share parenting videos, hand-outs, books, and toys
  • do activities with you and your child
  • connect you with other helpful community groups
  • if requested, come with you to prenatal check-ups, or other appointments

Community Programming:

When resources are available we also offer:

Collective Kitchen:  These sessions provide an opportunity for families get together to cook healthy recipes and learn healthy cooking tips at the Arctic Family Centre.

Community Garden:  We have garden plots at the Community Greenhouse and in front of the Arctic Family Centre to provide fresh vegetables that are then processed at the centre for use in our programs and distributed to the community.

Weekly Drop-In Sessions: These information sessions allow the opportunity for young families to meet and share in their experiences.  It is a great way to develop a community support network and to learn from the community.  A light snack is provided and children are, of course, welcome

Special Events:  Throughout the year other activities may be offered such as a Mother’s Day Tea, Father’s Day Picnic etc.
